According to data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), textile waste has increased by 811 percent between 1960 and 2015. The majority of this waste is made up of municipal solid waste (MSW). MSW encompasses discarded clothing, as well as small furniture, carpets, tires, and footwear. The EPA calculated that in 2015, clothing and footwear produced 11.9 million tons of waste and 4.5 percent of total MSW. Decades of data gathering evidence a dramatic increase in textile waste, which grew from 1.76 million tons in 1960 to more than 16 million tons in 2015. The reality is that Americans still opt to throw away most of their old clothes, because it's easiest to do so and/or they think no one would want their castoffs. On average, people get rid of about 70 pounds of textiles each year, with 85 percent of these old or unwanted duds ending up in the trash truck. That means we are collectively generating 16 million tons of clothing waste annually. That's the same weight as 400 cruise ships! Only 2 million tons from this 16 million ton quantity are donated for reuse and recycling.

Michael DeLeon and Steered Straight Inc. travel the country going to schools to speak with kids about the importance of drugs, bullying, and suicide prevention. Some schools don’t have the proper funding needed for these lessons we provide. Michael was irritated with this and wanted to find a way to provide schools in need. In 2019 he created Steered Straight Thrift Store where amazing supporters around the country donate items and we sell them in our stores in Murfreesboro, TN. 100% of all our sales provide jobs for formerly incarcerated, those in recovery, and we give the homeless clothing.
Provide youth with real-life examples of negative consequences that resulted from making poor decisions. We strive to impact the minds of youth to steer their lives in positive ways and encourage them to make positive life-choices. Give kids the ability to develop a sense of understanding about the positive and negative choices in their lives. Reduce the number of youth who end up in the criminal justice system due to making poor decisions.
" We have used numerous clean-out services over the years and have never experienced such a professional job as we did with Michael and Steered Straight. They provided us with more than they promised in half the time they estimated. Our client was thrilled because all of their family member's belongings went to a purpose rather than just someone's pocket. We all appreciate steered straight's purpose and are grateful that the things this family accumulated their entire life will literally now help save people's lives through the Steered Straight mission. We recommend this awesome organization to anyone who needs an estate cleaned out or things you mo longer need. "

I fell back on my eating disorder as a way to cope with life and to feel happy, but that was the biggest lie I fell for.
Larry is a senior in high school excited for graduation and prom. But when his life makes a sudden turn, everything crumbles and he finds himself with a source of coping--bulimia. As his addiction snowballs into something dangerous, instead of enjoying his senior year of high school and preparing for graduation, Larry finds himself in an eating disorder treatment program hours away from home, where he must turn to his new friends, family, and the Lord to overcome it.
